+++ Alexander Liebreich is new chief conductor of the Polish National Symphony Orchestra Katowice +++
From September 2012 on, Alexander Liebreich will be the chief conductor and artistic director of the Polish National Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) Katowice. After working with the ensemble on a regular basis for the past five years, the leading orchestra of Poland officially appoints Liebreich on 9 February 2012 to this new position. He will be the first German chief conductor of a Polish symphony orchestra since World War II. He will continue his work as principal conductor and artistic director of the Munich Chamber Orchestra (MKO).
In March 2012, Alexander Liebreich is going to present his second festival season as artistic director of the Tongyeong International Music Festival (TIMF). The Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa will be the festival's 2012 Composer-in-Residence, together with Beat Furrer. The world premiere of Hosokawa's Music in honour of the victims of the Tsunami and Fukushima will be performed at the opening concert on 23 March 2012. International guests such as Martin Grubinger, Trio Mediaeval, Carolin Widmann and the MKO have also been invited to this year's TIMF.
