The premiere of Elogium Musicum amatissimi amici nunc remoti in commemoration of Hans Werner Henze's late partner in life Fausto Moroni received great acclaim from audience and critics alike. The Gewandhaus Orchestra and the MDR Radio Choir premiered the work on 3 October in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig under the baton of Riccardo Chailly.
Hans Werner Henze says of his eulogies, based on texts by Franco Serpa and composed as a lamentaion imbued with grief and loss: "The sun light incides and brightens up everything. Thus, it is often referred to joy, love of life, miracles of nature and the beautiful and gruesome things in life associated with these."
