Jeremias Schwarzer - recorder

Jeremias Schwarzer has made a name for himself on the early music scene through his enviable virtuosity and musicality. He is extremely dedicated to the expansion of recorded techniques, which has also put him in high demand as a specialist of new music.

He works closely with composers and regularly commissions new works. He has had a great impact on broadening contemporary repertoire for the recorder and has premiered over 70 new works by composers such as Rolf Riehm, Annette Schlünz, Toshio Hosokawa, Liza Lim, Salvatore Sciarrino, Dai Fujikura, Misato Mochizuki, Samir Odeh-Tamimi, and others.

Beyond his virtuosic performances on the recorder, he is also sought-after for his conceptual work creating musical ‘settings' and exploring unique concert formats to facilitate a new sensual awareness for listeners and artists alike.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Jeremias Schwarzer appears regularly at international festivals and in concert series such as the ISCM World Music Days, Belgrade Flute Festival, ZKM Karlsruhe, Exhibition of Contemporary Music in Tokyo, Midway Theater Boston, Cairo Opera House, CS Hall Seoul, and the Forum Neuer Musik in Cologne. His collaborations with ensembles and orchestras include projects with Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the BR, SWR and hr Radio Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Bamberg Symphonic, Münchener Kammerorchester, Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and conductors such as Lothar Zagrosek, Daniel Harding, Peter Rundel and Beat Furrer.

In addition to concerts and productions of baroque chamber music, Jeremias Schwarzer has also continued premiering modern recorder concertos. In Donaueschingen he premiered a work by the Australian composer Liza Lim (SWR Symphony Orchestra), as well as a new work written for him by Dai Fujikura with the Ensemble Resonanz in Amsterdam and Huddersfield. He kicked off the 2011/12 concert season in Berlin with the world premiere of Singing Garden. A collaboration with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Singing Garden was conceived by Jeremias Schwarzerand features music by Antonio Vivaldi and Toshio Hosokawa Berlin. The lighting and scenery was done by Claudia Doderer.

Following recent CD releases on Moeck, Cybele, and Valve Records, Jeremias Schwarzer has begun a long-term collaboration with the neos label. This autumn, neos released a CD of works for koto and recorder written for Makiko Goto and Jeremias Schwarzer.
