+++ Peter Rundel conducts Stockhausen's Michaels Reise at the Cologne Philharmonie +++
On 25 and 26 August, MusikFabrik will be performing Michaels Gruß, Michaels Reise and Michaels Abschied, conducted by Peter Rundel, in a new scenic production of Thursday from Stockhausen's momumental opera cycle Light at the Philharmonie in Cologne. Carlos Padrissa, co-founder of the Catalan drama group La Fura dels Baus, directed the production, which was premiered at the Wiener Festwochen earlier this year in co-operation with the Wiener Taschenoper, KölnMusik and musikFabrik.
Karlheinz Stockhausen composed the 29-hour-long opera Light during 1977 and 2003. The seven parts are named after the days of the week. The three main characters Michael, Eva and Lucifer are represented by certain melodies, colours, instruments and planets. In this production, video installations and light effects combine with the virtuosic mastery of Marco Blaauw on trumpet and Nicola Jürgensen on bassett horn.
There will be further performances of the production this year in Warsaw and Paris and in 2009 in Madrid.
