+++ Toshio Hosokawa awarded Roche Commissions +++
On 30 August 2008 at a ceremony in the Roche Forum Buonas near Lucerne, Hoffmann-La Roche announced Toshio Hosokawa as the next awardee of the Roche Commissions.
Every two years, Hoffmann-La Roche gives commissions to most outstanding composers of our time. The receiver is chosen by the artistic directors of the Lucerne festival, the Carnegie Hall and the Cleveland Orchestra, which will give the premiere of the new work.
Toshio Hosokawa is the fifth composer to receive this honour, joining a list of notable composers alongside Harrison Birtwistle (2002), Chen Yi (2004), Hanspeter Kyburz (2006) and George Benjamin (2008).
The premiere of Toshio Hosokawa's new piece will take place on 28 August 2010 during the Lucerne Festival Summer in the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern (KKL). In the subsequent season, the work will receive its American premiere at Carnegie Hall. Both concerts will be performed by the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.
