A graduate in piano and conducting of the Rubin Academy in his home-town of Jerusalem, Yuval Zorn performed extensively as a pianist in Israel and Europe before joining the Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2002. During his time at the ROH, he conducted several world premieres of new operas, and was also involved in numerous productions as an assistant conductor, répétiteur and coach, namely with the ROH's music director Antonio Pappano.
Yuval Zorn has since continued to combine conducting, assisting, and coaching, working with several of the leading opera houses and opera festivals in Europe such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (the project Revival! With works by Clement Ishmael, Dominique de Gendre and Errollyn Wallen was broadcast on BBC4), Festival d'Aix en Provence, Glyndebourne Festival, Théâtre La Monnaie de Munt, Royal Danish Theatre, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris, collaborating with leading conductors such as Daniel Harding, Iván Fischer and Kazushi Ono.
Since the 2008/09 season, Yuval Zorn has been Kapellmeister at the Opera Frankfurt where he had conducted numerous productions including Il Trittico, Le nozze di Figaro, The Turn of the Screw, La Clemenza di Tito, Lucia di Lammermoor and Così fan tutte. The scenic production of 1900, which included the world premiere of Jens Joneleit's new arrangement of Mahler's Lied von der Erde, received great critical acclaim under the baton of Zorn and was one 2011's season highlights.
Furthermore, he conducted Don Carlos and Mephistophele at the New Israeli Opera, Tel Aviv, the world premieres of Bird of Night (Dominique le Gendre) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and of Piero - Ende der Nacht (Jens Joneleit) at the Munich Biennale with Ensemble Modern, as well as concerts with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (Mozart program).
Yuval Zorn will begin the season 2011/12 with performances of La Traviata, Les contes d'Hoffmann and Die Zauberflöte at the Opera Frankfurt and he will be following Bochum Symphony's re-invitation to conduct two concerts with soprano Simone Kermes.
