Zoltán Nyári - tenor

Hungarian tenor Zoltán Nyári takes on each role he performs with meticulous authenticity, embodying each character completely, as an actor and singer, down to the very last detail.

Zoltán Nyári's musical education began with violin lessons as a child. He later turned to acting and went on to study at the University of Drama and Film in Budapest, graduating in 1993 with a degree in theatre. His professional voice-training began after his studies, with teachers such as Magda Nádor, and gradually took a more dominant role in his career.

Zoltán Nyári joined the Operetta Theater of Budapest in 1996. In his decade-long tenure with the opera he sang on tour in countries all over the world including Germany, Holland, the United States and Japan. After performing in numerous musicals and starring in over 400 operettas, Zoltán Nyári is now focusing on opera repertoire. In 2005, he was awarded the Hungarian "Jászai Mari" Prize for his work and became a member of the Hungarian State Opera performing roles like Lenskij (Onegin), Prinz (Rusalka), Hoffmann (Les contes d'Hoffmann), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Rodolfo (La Bohème) and Alfredo (La Traviata).

He was finalist and first prize winner (Best Male Performer and Audience Prize) in the Mezzo Television Opera Competition 2009, during which he performed in the operas Le dernier jour d'un condamné (D. Alagna) in Debrecen and Emmeline (T. Picker) in New York City, of which the New York Times wrote, "Zoltán Nyári brought a bright, penetrating sound to the role of Matthew Gurney, Emmeline's grown son."

In the season 2010/11 he could be heard as Don José in Carmen at the Semperoper Dresden, where he also performed the role of the Prince in Rusalka by Antonin Dvórak, a role that he will revive in autumn 2011.
