Rachel Kelly grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and began taking piano lessons at the age of three. At seven she started to play the violin and eventually also picked up the bassoon. She attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Oberlin College in Ohio where she received degrees in both violin performance and German language and literature. While at Oberlin, she played under conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Franz Welser-Möst and David Zinman.

After graduation she moved to Berlin on a Fulbright Grant. During this time she did research on Berlin's system of music-emphasizing schools and taught both English and violin.

Rachel enjoys writing songs and is a member of an online song-writing collective that custom writes songs for those in need. She otherwise enjoys spending her spare time playing with her pet rabbit.
